We will create this shape with the help of Polygon Tool and Shape Builder Tool.

Launch Adobe Illustrator and create a new document. Now follow the steps given below-

Step 1

Select Polygon Tool from the Tool Panel and click on the artboard. A dialogue box will appear on the artboard. In that dialogue box, set the sides to 3 and click OK.

When you will click OK, a triangle will appear on the artboard.

Step 2

With the help of Selection Tool select the triangle and drag it from the corner to increase its size.

Again select the triangle and press and hold Alt key to create a duplicate copy of it. Place the duplicate copy as shown in the below image.

Now we will create 5 more duplicate copies of the triangle and place them in the same way as it is shown in the below image.

Step 3

With the help of Selection Tool select all the triangles and then select Shape Builder Tool from the Tool Panel.

With the help of Shape Builder Tool we will join different paths to form a shape.

Step 4

Select the Direct Selection Tool from the Tool Panel. With the help of Direct Selection Tool, we will shape the corners of the triangle.

Today we are going to create a new effect in Adobe Illustrator; i.e.; X-ray Effect. We will create this effect with the help of Pencil Tool and Blend Tool.

X-ray report shows the bones and for our tutorial we will first have to search for an image. The image which I have selected is an image of animal skull.

After finalizing the image, launch your Adobe Illustrator and create a new document. Now follow the steps given below-

Step 1

If you want to have a perfect outline of the skull you can place the image on the artboard. Otherwise you can also draw the outline on your own. To make it quiet easier for you to understand I have placed the image on the artboard.

You can place the image on the artboard by clicking on File in the Menu Bar and then select Place. Then browse the image which you want to add and select it. Put a checkmark on Link, click on Place and then click on the artboard and your image will be added to the artboard.

Step 2

Select the Pencil Tool and start drawing the outline strokes of the animal skull. As the skull is horizontally symmetrical, we will draw one part and then will copy paste the other part.

Select the strokes drawn with help of the Pencil Tool and drag them on the artboard.

Step 3

Select all the strokes and change the stroke color to # 5d5c57. Let the strokes be selected and click on Object in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on Blend and select Make.

Now double click on the Blend Tool in the Tool Panel. Blend Options dialogue box will appear on the artboard. In that dialogue box, select Specified Steps in Spacing and set the number accordingly.

Check the Preview and click OK.

Step 4

One part of the effect is ready. Select it and copy paste it on the other side to complete the X-ray effect. Also create a black color background.

Adding text on 3D shape is different from creating a 3D text effect. Let’s see how it is done-

Step 1

Launch Adobe Illustrator and create a new document. Now we will create our text box. For that go to the Tool Panel and select the Rectangle Tool. Draw a rectangle on the artboard of the size of which you want to create your text box.

Now select the Type Tool and create a paragraph type box inside the rectangle.

Step 2

You can edit the text inside the paragraph. Select the default text in the paragraph type box and hit backspace. Now you can type your own text.

Once the text box is ready we will add it as symbol. Open the Symbols Panel and then select the rectangle and the text and drag them to the Symbols Panel.

When you will drag the selection to the Symbols Panel, Symbol Options dialogue box will appear on the artboard. In that dialogue box, you can give a name to your symbol and then click OK.

After saving the symbol, we will create a 3D shape. Again select the Rectangle Tool and draw a rectangle.

Select the rectangle and click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on 3D and select Extrude & Bevel.

3D Extrude & Bevel Options dialogue box will appear on the artboard. In that dialogue box, put checkmark on Preview and then increase the Extrude Depth. If you wish you can manually rotate the 3D shape.

Now click on Map Art and a new dialogue box will appear. In that Map Art dialogue box, click on the drop down button of Symbol and select the new symbol added.

Step 1

Select the Ellipse Tool and draw a circle of size 400 X 400 pt. Fill the circle with the color #04123b.

As we are making a Glossy Sphere we will create few highlights on the circle. We will create the highlights with the help of Gradient Mesh Tool. Let’s move on to the next step to create the highlights.

Step 2

Select the circle and click on Object in the Menu Bar. Now select Create Gradient Mesh.

When you will select Create Gradient Mesh, a dialogue box will appear on the artboard. In that dialogue box, set the rows and columns of the gradient mesh and then click OK.

Step 3

Now with the help Direct Section Tool we will select the points on the mesh and will fill then with lighter shade to create the highlights.

If required you can add more mesh points with the help of Mesh Tool.

Now we will create some light effect but before that we will lock the mesh we have created. Select the shape and then press Ctrl + 2 to lock the selection.

Step 4

Again select the ellipse tool and draw an oval shape. Fill the shape with the black and white gradient. (See the image below)

Double click on the Gradient Tool in the Tool Panel to open the Gradient Panel. In the Gradient Panel we will change the angle of the gradient to -90o.

Now we will change the blend of this shape from Normal to Screen.

Adjust the Opacity of the shape.

In this step we will fill the sides of the cube with Gradient to create an effect of shadow.

With the help of Selection Tool, select the left side of the cube and fill it with black and white gradient. Then double click on the Gradient Tool to open the Gradient Panel.

In the Gradient Panel, click on the Gradient Slider and change the color of the pointer filled with black color. New color to be filled is #a7a9ac.

In the similar way fill other two sides of the cube with the same Gradient but the angle of gradient will be different in all the sides.

In the right side of the cube, reverse the applied gradient and on the top of the cube the angle of gradient will be 90o.

Now select all the sides of the cube and group them by pressing Ctrl + G. Reduce the size of the cube.

Select the cube and press and hold Alt key and drag the cube to create duplicate copy of it.

Now make more duplicate copies and arrange them in a line to create the background on the artboard.

Select all the cubes arranged in a line and group them and create more duplicate lines.
