In today’s tutorial, we will create a 3D Cube in Adobe Illustrator without the help of a 3D effect. We will use the shape tool and transform panel to create a 3D Cube in Adobe Illustrator.

Step 1

Open Adobe Illustrator, and create a new document. Now, select the Rectangle Tool from the Tool Panel and draw a rectangle.

Go to the Transform Panel and enter the value of Angle of Shear and Angle of Rotation as (-) 20o.

Step 2

Now select the rectangle, that we have transformed in the first step, and click on Object in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on Transform and select Reflect.

When you select Reflect, a dialogue box will appear. In that dialogue box, click on Copy and a copy of the selected rectangle will be created as its reflection.

Drag and place the reflected rectangle next to the first rectangle. (See in the below image)

Step 3

Now draw a square with the help of Shape Tool and place it above the rectangles in such a way that the center point of the square is at the point where the two corners of the rectangles are meeting.

Select the square and rotate it to 315o.

With the help of Direct Selection Tool we will join the corners of the square with the top corners of the rectangles.

Step 4

You can see the cube shape is almost formed but we will add a little more to it.

Make a duplicate copy of the top layer of the cube and place it at the bottom. (See in the below image)

Color the Cube

Now, we will color the cube. We will use the Gradient to fill the color to make the cube look more realistic.
