Folded Text Effect in Adobe Illustrator
Today you will learn to create a new effect in Adobe Illustrator. The effect is the Folded Text Effect. This effect is not limited to text. You can use this effect in shapes or objects also.
You can use this typography effect while designing flyers or posters.
So, today’s tutorial is all about creating a Folded Text Effect in Adobe Illustrator.
Launch Adobe Illustrator and begin with the Folded Text Effect tutorial-
Step 1
Create a new document and select the Rectangle Tool from the Tool Panel and create a background.
Select Type Tool from the Tool Panel. Now type the text on the artboard and choose a bold font style. Also, increase the font size.
Step 2
Now make the text an editable text by selecting the text and Creating Outlines.
Select the text with the help of the Selection Tool. Now right click on the mouse and then select Create Outlines.
Ungroup the text. Now each letter of the text can be selected individually.
Press Ctrl + A and go to the Tool Panel and right-click on Eraser Toolto select the Knife Tool. After selecting Knife Tool, press and hold the Alt key and move the cursor over the letters to cut them.
Step 3
Select the Direct Selection Tool from the Tool Panel and select all the parts of the text which you want to fold. Now change the color of those parts.
Select one part of the first letter with the help of the Selection Tool and select the Reflect Tool from the Tool Panel. Place the reflection cursor on one anchor point and then click on another anchor point to flip that part and create a Fold Effect.
Now do the same with other parts also.
Step 4
Now we will make some more realistic views of the folded parts with the help of Wrap Tool.
Select the first folded part and then click on Effect in the Menu Bar. Place the cursor on Wrap and then select Arch.
Wrap Options dialogue box will appear on the artboard. In that dialogue box, checkmark on the Preview and then set the bend percentage. Click OK.
The bending type in each part may vary; either horizontal or vertical. With the help of Warp Tool apply Arch Wrap Style to each and every folded part of the text.
Your Folded Text Effect is ready. If you want you can change the color of the text to give it new look.
